Rick was born on May 18, 1952 to Gertrude "Trudy" and Richard E Maib in Wapato, WA. He spent most of his youth on the farm in Sunnyside until the family moved to Naches, WA where he graduated from Naches HS in 1970.

After earning his Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Washington, Rick and Teresa opened "A Place Called Hope", pursuing their passion to work with foster children and families to ensure that every child that they placed was welcomed by a loving and supportive home.
